How can a VA benefit from working from home during a transportation strike?

It’s another challenging week for the employees, students, and the public in general in the Philippines as they are faced with a whole week of a transportation strike.

What does this mean?

It means that the public transportation immobilised its operations for the whole week due to its demand of NOT allowing the modernisation of the old jeepneys. Jeepneys are the main transportation in the Philippines and have been running for centuries.

I have seen them, and yes to some extent I believe that they should be upgraded, however, there are definitely some issues that both parties should be dealing with first.

Although our VAs in the Philippines are not directly impacted by this situation, they are however indirectly affected, as some of the VAs are mums and so having their kids around as they work may add small disruptions.

This strike highlights why most of our VAs chose to change careers from working in the office to being work-from-home VA.

They can have the best of both worlds, being a parent, still able to provide for the family, and not experiencing this dilemma as a commuter.

For us work-from-home professionals, this may not be a big issue, as we do not need to commute to go to work.

When a transport strike occurs, working from home can have several advantages for our VAs.

Here are some benefits of working from home that most of our VAs enjoy and benefit from, especially when a situation like this occurs:

  1. Avoiding transportation disruptions: Working from home eliminates the need to commute, which means that they can avoid transportation disruptions caused by the strike.
  2. Saving time: Since they don’t have to commute, they can use that time to focus on work or other activities. This increases their productivity and reduces stress levels.
  3. Saving money: Working from home also helps them save money on transportation costs, such as gas, tolls, and parking.
  4. Maintaining work-life balance: As they work from home, they have more control over their schedule and can more easily balance their work and personal responsibilities.
  5. Maintaining safety: During a transport strike, there may be safety concerns associated with using alternative modes of transportation or walking long distances. Working from home can help them avoid these risks and keeps them safe.

Overall, working from home can be a convenient and efficient solution for Filipinos during this situation.

We hope that most employers who have the ability to offer flexible work arrangements during times of transportation disruption can help reduce stress and support their employees.

As for Virtual Elves, our main goal is to make sure that our VAs are happy and productive as they can avoid stressful situations like this.
