Should I Subcontract This Holiday Season?

Santa ClausWith Christmas just around the corner you may be like the majority of other business people who have a schedule full of obligations, meetings, and extensive planning for the upcoming holiday. During these rushed and hectic seasons it can be difficult to find some much-needed personal family time. And while we all love to feel in control of our business, sometimes it’s better to just find a subcontractor.

Releasing your grip from the company wheel and delegating tasks to qualified subcontractors is an important part of running any successful enterprise, and the good time is to subcontract this holiday season.

Here’s a couple of ideas to keep in mind and a few questions to ask yourself before you start going gift shopping and getting ready for your upcoming break.

  •  Take a long and thorough look at your calendar and get a good idea for how much time each task may take to complete, and ask yourself if its necessary to perform this task. If there’s more important matters you can attend to, then scratch it off your to-do list and bring in some help.
  •  Christmas is a very profitable time for any business, online or offline, and it’s essential to keep track of costs and how they’ll affect you now and later. Compare the approximate costs of each job and decide which ones can be delegated to someone else. This will allow you to focus on critical activities that have a higher income potential.
  •  Ask yourself how you really feel about a certain task. Is it too time-consuming and energy-draining? By completing things you have little to no interest in will only bring dissatisfaction and will risk the quality of your work. And just because you may not like performing a certain task, doesn’t mean others will dislike it. Remember that there’s plenty of motivated individuals out there that would love to help you and your project.
  •  One of the most time-consuming elements that business leaders tend to get wrapped up in is the development of new skills. Being successful doesn’t mean you must be a machine. It’s best to perform tasks that fall within the range of skills that you already possess. Taking the time out of your schedule to learn how to do new tasks is both costly and risky. Concentrating on your unique skills and subcontracting work to those who already know what they’re doing can easily be seen as one of the most important aspects to an effective subcontract.

Christmas is a time for giving, but how can you give if you’re stuck in the office all day working on repetitive tasks that hold no value for you on a personal level? It’s safe to say that hiring a subcontractor during vacations and during the Christmas season is essential to a relaxing vacation. It also allows you to take a breather and gain new insights which can result in the development of brilliant ideas.
